A little Balance goes a long way.

I laugh at work-life balance. I laugh at balance in general, a life doled out in equal proportions and symmetry. Give me the roller coaster, the bumps and troughs, because the flatline will come for us all soon enough. Obsession and passion require a beautiful, terrible imbalance.

However. A little Balance, in pen form, is perfectly fine.

The material is pearlescent green with black. The Sheaffer white dot on the cap is crisp.

Don't you just want to hug that cute little thing?

The pen is the smallest Balance I’ve seen, and one of the few pens I own that I need to post to use.

This shot's really not necessary. But look, depth of field!

This shot is completely gratuitous. But look, depth of field!

So what’s a girl like me doing with a Balance like this?

It's the nib, baby.

It's the nib, baby.

Tom found this pen for me. It has a really flexible nib, a rare find in Sheaffer Balances.

This is turning out to be the gratuitous shot blog entry.

The generous flex of the nib is all out of proportion to the pen’s pocket-sized body.

The feed can just about keep up with the flow a calligraphic hand requires. Whew.

Do not go balanced into that good night. With a few exceptions.

The littlest vest pocket balances are so very cute. They have such a tiny lever! I just find them to be like little gems. It always makes me wonder who these were marketed for? People with tiny pockets?

I think they were maybe for vest pockets. I have a teeny little stub like that in gray marble with red veins. I sometimes wish it were bigger and then get over my fear of posting.

Leigh, I am so delighted to meet you. I will say more in future e-mails. Suffice it to say now that you blog is for me a source of deep delights. One question presently though. Did you have your Shaeffer Balance’s nib ground for calligraphy or is that writing with the standard nib?
    I love it.
    Have a Blessed Day.
